Grilled Vegan Glazed Donut Ice Cream Sandwich
Doughnuts are the best when they are fresh out of the oven. If you grew up in Canada, you have probably heard of Krispy Kreme donut shop, where the lineup goes way out the door with families waiting to get their OG sugar-glazed donuts. This extremely sweet and gorgeous donut is a fan favorite and when you bring them to a party, they will be gone in seconds. However, when you leave them out for too long, it loses that fresh spark that we all love and enjoy. So, I decided to elevate this irresistibly good fresh-out-of-the-oven experience by grilling the donuts and adding ice cream to them. I present to you the grilled vegan glazed donut ice cream sandwich, a one-of-a-kind recipe that makes you question, why didn’t I do this sooner?
When toasting the donuts inside the grill, it caramelizes the sugar, creating this dark, smoky flavor that creates a crispy layer in combination with the soft, pillowy texture. To balance out the hot donuts, I added a scoop of ice cream to cool it down, then topped it off with a bourbon-maple syrup mix. This recipe is probably one of the best guilty pleasures I have made yet. I don’t think I can ever eat donuts the same way again after this.

Pro Tips:
- You can omit the bourbon to make it non-alcoholic and use just maple syrup only instead.
- If you don’t have a BBQ grill, you can cook it in the oven for 5-mins at 350F.
- Recommended to put ice cream right after the donuts are out of the grill while it’s still hot.

- 2 tbsp bourbon
- ¼ cup Pure Maple Syrup
- 2 glazed or sugared donuts, cut in half
- 4 scoops ice cream of choice
- In a small saucepan, bring the bourbon and maple syrup to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10 mins until thickened and slightly reduced. Set aside.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan to high, and grill donut halves, glazed side down, until charred, about 1 minute. Set aside to cool.
- Place 2 scoops of ice cream in between each donut sandwich and press down.
- Drizzle with Maple bourbon glaze and serve with a shot of bourbon on the side.

- 2 tbsp bourbon
- 1/4 cup Pure Maple Syrup
- 2 glazed or sugared donuts, cut in half
- 4 scoops ice cream of choice
