How To Make: Sweet and Sour Tofu

Tofu is a super versatile ingredient. It’s something that a lot of vegans love to eat (myself included). The thing with tofu is that it’s super easy to make bland and boring BUT it’s also super easy to make delicious, flavourful, and exciting. It just needs a little bit of special attention to reach its potential, just like all of us do.

Feel free to share & print my recipe below to make your own sweet and sour tofu! Or you can watch me on YouTube show you how to make it!

INGREDIENTS FOR SWEET AND SOUR TOFU

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SWEET AND SOUR TOFU

  1. To make sweet and sour tofu, you first want to press the block of tofu. This helps to get the access water out of the tofu to help it absorb more of the yummy marinade. To do this, you just have to wrap the block in a paper towel or a clean kitchen towel and lay something heavy (I typically use a cast iron pan or 2) on top of it for a minimum of 15 minutes or overnight.
  2. Heat some oil in a skillet on medium-high heat.
  3. Add your tofu cubes and stir occasionally, until they are golden and lightly crisp on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add more oil, or water to the skillet and toss in the veggies. Cook until tender. Set aside.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine pineapple juice, coconut sugar, rice vinegar, ketchup, and soy sauce or tamari. Stir constantly.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat and let the sauce reduce, stirring until sauce is thick and glossy.
  8. Toss tofu, veggies, and sauce together in the skillet, until well coated. Start with half of the sauce, add more as needed. Save some sauce on the side for people to add more to their dish as desired.
  9. Serve on top of rice or noodles. Top with sesame seeds.

I’ve created easy-to-follow instructions below! You can also watch me on YouTube show you how to make it!
