I’m going to show you how to turn sun-dried tomatoes into vegan bacon bits! Credit goes to Sam from It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken for inspiring me to use sun-dried tomatoes to make vegan bacon bits! I experimented with sun-dried tomatoes and added seasoning that made the vegan bacon bits more smokey for my vegan carbonara pasta recipe.
We are lucky enough that most store-bought bacon bits are accidentally vegan, but they are full of preservatives and chemicals. These homemade vegan bacon bits are the perfect crunchy and smokey addition to any recipe like pasta dishes, baked potatoes, and salads.
INGREDIENTS FOR BACON BITS (VEGAN):
- Soy Sauce or Tamari (GF option)
- Liquid Smoke
- Garlic Powder
- Sun-Dried Tomatoes (not packed in oil)
- Olive Oil
KITCHEN EQUIPMENT I USED:
- To make vegan bacon bits, get a small bowl and whisk together; soy sauce, liquid smoke, paprika, and garlic powder. Add sun-dried tomatoes, and coat them completely.
- Heat up olive oil in a small pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the marinated sun-dried tomatoes until crispy.
