Coconut Milk Recipe
Even if you don’t have access to a coconut tree to pick a fresh coconut and drain it to make coconut milk, you can easily make your own at home with shredded coconut!
This recipe is faster than going to get a carton of store-bought coconut milk, and it’s fresh without preservatives!
I’m going to teach you how to make coconut milk at home in 10 minutes! As well as how to make 3 flavored coconut milk, including chocolate coconut milk.

INGREDIENTS FOR CHOCOLATE COCONUT MILK
- 1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less to thicken, more to thin)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 pitted dates
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-4 pitted dates + extra to taste
INGREDIENTS FOR VANILLA COCONUT MILK
- 1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less to thicken, more to thin)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 pitted dates
INGREDIENTS FOR CINNAMON COCONUT MILK
- 1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less to thicken, more to thin)
- Pinch of salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 pitted dates
INGREDIENTS FOR UNSWEETENED COCONUT MILK BASE
- 1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less to thicken, more to thin)
- Pinch of salt
INGREDIENTS FOR SWEETENED COCONUT MILK
- 1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less to thicken, more to thin)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 pitted dates

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COCONUT MILK
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. This takes at least 30 seconds.
- Strain the milk into a jug or jar using a fine-mesh sieve, nut milk bag or a thin dishtowel in a pinch.
TIPS FOR MAKING HOMEMADE COCONUT MILK
- You can refrigerate your homemade coconut milk for up to 4-5 days.
- Homemade coconut milk is perfect for smoothies, coffee and cooking soups, curries, or for baking.
- You can make any flavored coconut milk you want! Just use the unsweetened coconut milk as a base and add any flavor you’d like to it.
- Save the coconut pulp leftovers for baked goods, homemade granola bars and more!

Recipe for Coconut Milk
- 1½ cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 5 cups water (less for thicker milk, more for thinner milk)
- Pinch of salt
- Add 2 pitted dates
- Add 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-4 pitted dates + extra to taste
- Add 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 pitted dates
- Add ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 pitted dates
- Add all desired ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy (at LEAST 30 seconds).
- Strain the milk using a fine-mesh sieve, nut milk bag or a thin dishtowel in a pinch.
- Transfer strained milk into a jug or glass jar and refrigerate for up to 4 days.
