Before Tiktok made it famous, custard toast originated in Asian Bakeries and had become a big hit in Taiwanese bubble tea cafes. They are normally made with a thick slice of bread covered in sweet custard and can be made extra fancy with fruits and additional toppings like ice cream and sauce

  1. In a small bowl whisk together vegan egg, oat yogurt, maple syrup, and lemon zest.
  2. Press the center of the bread with fingers or the back of a spoon to create an indent.
  3. Evenly divide the custard mixture between all 4 bread slices, and top with desired toppings.
To make in an oven: Bake on a baking sheet at 400F for 10-12 minutes, or until the custard is set and caramelized.
To make in an air fryer: Cook at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the custard is set and caramelized.
Serve as is or with a sprinkling of powdered sugar.
