Not too long ago I finished my most recent juice cleanse and wanted to share a candid blog post about my 14-day experience, for those of you who may be interested in juice cleansing to start off your new year. Juice Cleanses are a great way to give your body a break from unhealthy foods and general excess, “re-set” your digestive system and give your body a concentrated boost of nutrition. Because my life is total busy mess, I decided to use a juice service to help me out this time around. I chose Good Life Cleanse, a lovely little juicery in the heart of Vancouver Island. You can easily order everything online through their website and they deliver it right to your door!
What is Cold Pressed Juice?
Cold press juices are made from Hydraulic Cold Press juicers that deliver nutritional enzymes from the fibres of the produce. This method of pressing juice as opposed to blending or “chewing” juice allows the juice not to decay as quickly. Meaning that the juice is more nutrient dense and has a higher mineral content.
What I really liked about Good Life Cleanse is their dedication to pure juice. They use the infamous Norwalk Juicer, which was invented by Dr. Norman Walker. Andrea (Founder of GLC) swears that, “…nothing compares to it when it comes to maintaining maximum enzymes and nutrient content while producing superior flavor. It may be slow, but we think it’s well worth it.” …I can get down with that…

How Does it Work?
The Classic Good Life Cleanse consists of 6 bottles of cold-pressed juice each day for a total of 84 bottles of juice over a two-week period. In order to maximize the benefits of a cleanse and properly flush your system, be sure to drink all the juice provided.
Because I live in Toronto GLC delivered three days of juice at a time three times a week. They always showed up right on time and where wonderfully packed with lots of ice packs to keep them fresh and preserve their delicate nutrients. It was like Christmas three times a week for two weeks, and I was in heaven.
Because the juices are cold-pressed recommended shelf-life is only 3 days, so you must start/continue your cleanse the next morning in order to maximize the benefits of the juices.
Start To Cleanse Before Your Cleanse
I have done many cleanses, but I worked closely with Andrea and she provided me with a pre cleansing guide to ensure I was getting the most out of my cleanse. She recommended a 3-10 day pre cleanse to get your body “in the mood”.
What does this mean…?
Well, it means that 3-10 days before your cleanse you cut out ALL the bad stuff. What is the “bad stuff “you ask? Well the bad stuff is any processed foods, sugar, artificial sweeteners, meats & other animal protein/by-products (dairy), fast foods, fried foods, refined carbs, caffeine, soda, and alcohol.
…yup, all the fun stuff. But I didn’t just cut all that stuff out, I also added in a bunch of “good stuff”.
I drank a minimum of 2 liters of water each day, starting off with a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning. I ate only raw foods, nuts and seeds, and I added in a bunch of super-foods like spirulina and acai powder and an omega blend of chia, flax and hemp seeds.
It may sound boring, but it wasn’t! It was actually a great way to experiment with raw foods and eat something different every meal, every day. I felt great, I had tons of energy, and I thanks to all the fiber I had, some lovely bowel movements.
My daily menu consisted of:
Classic Greens: apple, cucumber, romaine, celery, lemon, spinach, kale, parsley, ginger
Sweet Life: pineapple, cucumber, apple, lime, mint
All U need: carrot, celery, spinach, parsley
Master Cleanse: filtered water, lemon, organic maple syrup, cayenne
Roots Remedy: cucumber, apple, celery, carrots, beet, lemon, ginger, parsley, mint
Creamy Cashew: filtered water, raw cashews, dates, vanilla bean, cinnamon, sea salt
Following this post I will you with my cleansing diary. But my days basically were structured like so…
6:30am- Wake up
7am- Drink 1L of warm lemon water
8am- Enjoy my first juice (Classic Greens)
10am- Chug back my Sweet Life juice during my morning meeting
12pm- Bring my All U Need juice to the lunchroom and watch everyone else eat food that required chewing
2pm- Enjoy the Master Cleanse as a mid-afternoon tummy flush
4pm- Indulge in some Roots Remedy as an afternoon snack
6pm- Rejoice in the amazing-ness that is the most creamy cashew milk I have ever had in my life!!!
10:30pm- Fall into the most magical dreamland of sleepiness I have ever experienced.
In between my juices I managed to also drink 2 liters of water daily and every few days consumed a “smooth move” organic herbal tea to help toxins leave my body faster.
To help deepen my cleanse I also created some new hobbies:
- Dry brushing before every shower
- Post work yoga followed by 20 minutes in an infra-red sauna
- Weekly massages that focused on major pressure points and lymphatic drainage
- Reduce my use of electronics after 9:30pm

Post Cleanse Blues
The biggest mistake people make is hurrying back to normal eating habits post-cleanse. This is very dangerous. Think about it, you essentially give your body a 2 week break from working, so like anything else in life, you have to also ease back into digesting at full force.
Easing slowly back into regular food was very important for me, so my first post-cleanse meal was a smoothie; very basic, just some homemade almond milk, a ripe banana, a cube of frozen spinach and 2 dates. I continued to make myself smoothies throughout the day and for the next 2 days, slowly moving up a level in ingredients each time. I started adding frozen berries, and nut butters and protein powder, all in a successful attempt to help coax my body into wanting to digest normally again.
And it worked! After 2.5 days of only smoothies I had a salad. I must admit, the act of chewing was incredibly bizarre and my stomach had some mild cramping, but nothing too major or out of the ordinary. Each salad I had for the next 2 days also moved up a level each time with more solid ingredients, I even started to add cooked proteins like quinoa and baked sweet potato.
Truth be told, I love cleanses. Sure, they are hard at first- but once you wrap your head around the fact that you wont be chewing or indulging, it is pretty easy.
All in all, my cleanse with Good Life Cleanse was a wonderful and satisfying experience, as well as a great exercise in self-control. This cleanse was a great way to physically and mentally reset my body, and really made me think twice before eating unhealthy foods post-cleanse. Knowing how good you can feel is truly amazing.
What did I end up getting out of this cleanse? A whole lot of what I wanted, and much more.
Healthy skin: My skin had never looked better. Yes, I stopped having major breakouts; but I also noticed a change in the way my skin looked (minimized pores) and felt (hydrated). I was glowing; it was almost as though there was a new life force living in my skin.
Increased energy & a clear mind: Not right away, but after day 5 and until the end of my cleanse, I felt like super-woman. I was able to complete tasks more efficiently and with more enthusiasm. My memory was incredible and my stamina had increased by at least 1.5 times. My mind felt light, buoyant and full of vitality.
Weight loss: I did not do this cleanse to lose weight, but weightless is a happy side effect of juicing for 14 days. Not only are you boosting your metabolism; you are also flushing your body of excess waste (up to 10lbs extra of poop) that has built up and become lodged in your digestive tract and intestines. I lost 12 lbs in total and still haven’t gained them back.
Reduced Stress & improved sleep: Because of how energized I felt and how clear my mind was, I was able to cope with stress on a more productive level. This ultimately lead to falling asleep more quickly due to a quieted mind and improved sleep over-all. I have never been able to sleep through the night without waking up, and I never felt rested. This was the first time in a long time that I felt like I was getting “the right amount” of rest.
More time: It is amazing how much extra time you have on your hands if you aren’t worrying about where your next meal is coming from. There was no grocery shopping, no prep work, no cooking and of course, no eating! All of that takes time. I used this extra time to work on my hobbies and see friends that I had been too busy to visit.
I would recommend Good Life Cleanse in a heartbeat! They went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. They provided a delicious, well-curated product, which was delivered to my home, and made me feel great!
My only complaint would be that there wasn’t little variety in the juices delivered, and I started to get a bit bored, but in the grand scheme of things (and the benefits I listed above)- this wouldn’t be enough to give it a negative review or stop me from using them again. Although repetitive- the juices were delicious and satisfying. You should totally do it!
