vegan hot sauce

Vegan buffalo saucevegan hot sauceI love hot sauce. Like, really love hot sauce. I put that sh*t on everything! The only thing better than hot sauce is homemade hot sauce, or in this case good ol’ fashioned buffalo sauce; with a vegan twist.

Sure, you can buy it, it’s easier that way, but bought sauces are so full of garbage, it’s not even funny.  Let’s get serious, why on earth would you buy something that is so easy to make at home?

This is a great sauce to use on buffalo tossed cauliflower, or as a garnish on vegan mac and cheese. Or you can just use it the ol’ fashioned way, on seitan chicken. Yummers.

  • You do know that MOST Worcestershire sauce is not vegan. Not everyone knows that. It might be nice to note it in the recipe.

The Amazon link is broken, what kind of hot sauce do you use?

  • Anything alt for the worches sauce, it doesnt hve the best ingredients

    • Hi Johnisha,

I found a blog that outlines the substitute ingredients for Worcestershire sauce – you can refer to the soy section. Hope this helps!

  • Superb! I made this recipe using Franks Hot Sauce, Country Crocks Vegan Butter, and served it over Daring Original plant based chicken with Hidden Valley Ranch plant based dressing on the side. OMG! This is what I’ve been missing since going vegan over 4 years ago. This is a must for any vegan that loves hot wings. Highly Recommended!

I’m sorry this didn’t work for you! It’s definitely important to use refined or deodorized coconut oil to avoid an overwhelming coconut flavour

  • I am a cilantro lover of the highest degree and this chicken looks amazing! I am highly suspicious of people who dislike cilantro 🙂

  • This recipe is great! I just made a big double batch for a potluck dinner with your Popeye’s style seitan and it was very well received. Someone commented that the sauce was perfect and just the right amount of heat.
I admit I had to make a couple of adjustments. I didn’t have Frank’s on hand, so I used about 3/4 cup sriracha, 1/4 cup Trader Joe’s Chili Pepper Sauce, and 1/3 cup Trader Joe’s Sriracha & Roasted Garlic BBQ Sauce, because it’s what I had. It was very good but it did have a distinct smokey sweet flavor from the strong BBQ sauce, and was more of a thick ketchup consistency when it cooled to room temp, probably on account of the thickeners in the BBQ. I ended up buying Frank’s later and tossing in a few teaspoons to thin it a down a bit and up the heat. Frank’s is exactly the perfect flavor. Next time!

  • Louisiana or Frank’s Red Hot is typically what you find in traditional buffalo sauce not Tabasco in the majority of recipes. I’m sure Tabasco would be great but it’s very uncommon.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for making a less “hot” version of this sauce? My grandmother loves these, but isn’t supposed to have a lot of hot food… has anyone tried 1/3 cup instead of 2/3?
    Thanks!

You should try using a milder hot sauce with the same amount recommended for the recipe, otherwise the sauce will be too buttery.

Aaaagh! Went looking for a recipe so I can make my own with stuff I’ve got in the house. First ingredient: hot sauce. You’re killin’ me here!

  • This was great, thanks!

  • Rad!

    Reblogged this on ?verything!.

  • Where can you buy the vegan Worcester sauce?

  • I do agree on the fact that it’s easier to buy. In my opinion it’s easy for people who don’t want to stand in the kitchen making something they can buy. However for me with a part time job living at home it is more economical to make this myself then to buy $5.00 worth of sauce everytime I run out. Instead I make as much as I want when I want it!!! 😀

  • Hey there! I’m from Sweden and trying to figure out how to translate the recipe… 2/3 Cups of hot sauce sounds incredible much!
Is it that hot sauce like the Luisiana or Tabasco-stuff? Those comes in 2 l.oz bottles and you’ll need five of those to make this recipe. Is that right?

  • How many calories would the whole recipe be including the frying?

  • I was just saying I need to make a vegan buffalo sauce! Looks like ol’ tractor beam eyes beat me to it. Thank you for this and all the other rad stuff you do 🙂
